Solar Energy for Home will not only benefit you, but it will also benefit the environment. You can change some simple things in your home to make it more energy efficient, and cut electricity costs!

Keep reading to discover some great tips about home energy efficient or simple ways to conserve energy in your home, and that away save lots of money.

Solar Panels All Done!

Rainwater is free, so why not use it to flush your toilet? This will cut down on energy costs for your home, and you will also be positively affecting the environment. You can easily collect rainwater by placing vessels, such as jars, outside during a rain storm.

Attach solar panels to the roof of your home to make it greener. While solar panels are a bit of an investment, they save a ton of money in the long run. Once you’ve made the initial investment in solar panels, you can actually pay them off and make money by selling energy back to the grid.

TIP! Examine the insulation within your home and consider green alternatives. If your home was built before 1982, your insulation could probably use an upgrade.

Air flow can be better controller when stormed windows and doors are installed in a home. Storm doors and windows dramatically reduce the amount of drafts and cold air that get into your home. Energy efficiency can be increased up to 45% in a home with storm windows and doors.

Buy rechargeable batteries for all of your gadgets instead of using the disposable version. Traditional batteries often get thrown into the regular garbage, which ends up polluting our environment. Keep money in your wallet while saving the environment by using the rechargeable alternatives. Rechargeable batteries will end up saving you hundreds of bucks over their lifetime.

Make sure that you check your oven’s seal regularly, as the heat that escapes when you turn on your oven could be costing you lots of money. Broken seals can make you use around 50% more in energy, so periodically check your seals.

TIP! Shading windows from sunlight whelps to save energy. Using curtains or blinds is a good way to block unwanted sunlight.

Using bright and light wall colors is an easy way to conserve electricity. Darker wall colors aren’t recommended because it takes more energy to light them up and that makes them less green than a brighter space. By allowing your rooms to have a lighter color, they will naturally look brighter and require less lighting, and therefore, allowing you to save on energy.

Dishwashers that are not full when run, are not making efficient use of your energy. It will use the same quantity of water or energy even if one dish is in it. When you do run the dishwasher, make sure to use the energy saving setting, which will allow your dishes to air-dry.

One way to reduce energy consumption is to lower your thermostat in the winter. Consider setting your thermostat to 60 degrees during the night or while you are away. At 60 degrees, your home uses far less energy than keeping the temperature higher. If you do this, you can cut down your energy usage and save money at the same time.

TIP! Use Energy Star rated appliances instead of your old appliances. This rating ensures that the appliance was built to use less energy than the other non Energy Star products.

If you dress warmer, you will help cut energy costs, which helps you to go green. Lighter sweaters can add 2 more degrees of warmth, while heavy sweaters increase warmth by 4 degrees. You don’t have to wear a t-shirt and shorts in your home, so dress warmly and save money!

Using lids on your cookware when you have them on the stove can help conserve energy. This helps keep the heat inside the pots, instead of escaping into your kitchen, which allows you to use lower heat settings on the stove.
